In spite of the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, other unions in the tertiary institutions have threatened to begin an indefinite strike.

Some of these Unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists.

The Unions announced their decision on Wednesday in Abuja, at a press conference addressed by the Joint Action Committee chairman, Samson Ugwoke, who is also the SSANU president.

He said the strike is going to take effect from Monday 11th September 2017.

The president also explained the reason for the strike as Government’s failure to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on January 2017.

The unions have no other option but to go on strike because series of letters have been written to the Government on pending implementation of the MOU, which were ignored.

On the other hand, ASUU said on Wednesday that its meeting on Thursday with federal government delegate, Dr. Ngige will solely be to thrash out issues between them.
