A former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, says the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities were unrealistic in light of the current economic situation in Nigeria.
The former minster said a lasting solution to the crisis bedeviling the education sector could only be found from strong analysis of the issues raised by ASUU and evidence based policies.
According to her, a structural and policy change which allows public and private investments should be integrated into the university system.
The strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities is one of the first challenges President Muhammadu Buhari will have to tackle
upon resumption of duty.
At the end .of last week, negotiations seemed stalled with the ASUU delegation agreeing to take the offers made by government back to members, with a view to responding within one week.
