The Federal Government and aggrieved members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have commenced negotiations, however no agreement has been reached to call off the strike anytime soon.
Participants at the meeting were plagued by arguments on whether or not to commence re-negotiation of the 2009 agreement and the fall out of the need assessment report of 2013.
While the academic union led by its President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi was in favour of full implementation of the need assessment report, the Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, as well as his Labour and Employment counterpart, Dr. Chris Ngige were in favour of re-negotiation of the previous agreement.

After the meeting, both sides maintained sealed lips on the position reached at the meeting, but the ASUU leader hinted that the union is expected to resume discussions with government in the next two weeks.
