The Unversity of Lagos Department of Department of Medical Micro Biology and Parasitology has developed a new method of diagnosing malaria without the use of blood sample.

This was disclosed by the Director, Research and Innovation of the institution, Prof. Wellington Oyibo, adding that the research was carried out in  collaboration with researchers in Baltimore, U.S.

He said that by this feat, the institution was fast becoming a clinical trial site for diagnosis in the country.

In this breakthrough, urine sample will be used for diagnosis instead of blood and it has been approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug  Administration and Control, NAFDAC and its US Food and Drug Control.
