The senate says it will review sections of the constitution to strengthen the punishment against rape.
 
The resolution followed a debate on the motion on the urgent need to investigate the alarming rate of sexual assault against women, children and vulnerable people across the country.
 
Most lawmakers who spoke painted a grim picture of the situation and condemned the act, calling for stiffer punishment for perpetrators and protection for victims.

Meanwhile reprisal attacks from the Feedi Market clash in Makurdi Benue State left three people dead in the early hours of yesterday.
 
The crisis reportedly started when two young men of Tiv and jukun Ethnic Groups clashed at the market yesterday killing one person.
 
The matter was said to have led to a heavy fight.
