Its not a secret that the "African sound" has become the popular sound with the whole world listening and trying to (re)connect to afrobeats.
Ciara's last trip to Nigeria had herself, Kaffy and their dancers reinvent Nigerian dance steps in the Dolphin Estate streets of Ikoyi.

You were probably expecting Diplo's recent trip to Nigeria for Gidi Fest 2017 to result in some afropop/afrobeat collabos
If you are familiar with Major Lazer then you know to expect some eclectic sounds, to those wondering  Diplo was going to churn like most Foreign artistes that come to Nigeria, there was the afrosmash remix to Major Lazer's 2017 single, "Run Up" hit YouTube on Friday night.

The remix and accompanying video, shot by Stanz Visuals features Skales, Yung L and producer, Chopstix, messing about and partying on the streets of Lagos with a group of dancers waving the Nigerian flag. It's simple, expected but effective.

This isn't the first time, Major Lazer has collaborated with African musicians. In 2015, Wizkid and Fuse ODG had features on both "Boom" and "Light It Up" respectively. And we're sure there'll be more afropop artists collaborating with Major Lazer now that afrobeat and afropop are becoming the new it-genres.

Taking to Instagram, Diplo spoke about the "Run Up" collaboration saying:

"We were inspired by afro pop and club music when we made run up. after our tour in Africa we cut a new version in Lagos.. the crew made a crazy video within a few days. Nigerian style…Shout out @yunglmrmarley @youngskales and @dchopstix"
