Nigeria accounts for about 500,000 missing cases of tuberculosis out of the three million that goes undetected globally.

And nearly eight out of every 10 cases of tuberculosis are not diagnosed according to the national TB and Leprosy Control Programme.

Ahead of the 2017 world TB Day, the national TB and Leprosy Control Programme in collaboration with the challenge tb project is focusing on accelerating TB case finding to improve treatment.

In a related development, the death of two students from Queens College Yaba drew the attention of the Federal and Lagos State Ministry of Health.

Although the root cause of their death is surrounded with controversy as the girls died at home during the mid term break, investigations have linked their deaths to the outbreak of gastrointestinal infections, manifesting as diarrhoea and vomiting from drinking contaminated water and eating food prepared in dirty surroundings in the school.
