West African forces freed 5, 000 people being held in villages by Boko Haram in Cameroonian border.
More than 60 fighters were killed during the operation.
Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said the hostages freed consisted mostly of women, children and elderly people,”
He later clarified that “the 5, 000 people were saved after a sweep at the border within Cameroonian territory.

Meanwhile troops of 8 Task Force division, Operation Lafiya Dole, have thwarted attack on Magumeri Town, Borno State, yesterday evening.
The terrorists attempted to set the town ablaze and kill the residents but the intervention of the troops prevented the mishap.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman.
