The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Francis Odesanya, is dead.
Police sources at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt told correspondent Monica Ogwa that the commissioner died in Dubai where he went for medical treatment.
He was the 37th Rivers State Commissioner of Police, having succeeded. Foluso Adebanjo on July 12, 2016.
Mr Odesanya joined the force on February 2, 1986, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose through the ranks to become commissioner of police.
Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with his family and the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung on the death of his wife, Briskila.
The president spoke with Mister Dalung on telephone from London.
He prayed God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
