The leadership of the senate has failed to end an industrial dispute between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
After three hours in a meeting which the media was shut out, the senate leadership said that the negotiation was ongoing. 
The acting Chairman of the senate Labour Committee, Mao Ohuabunwa said that the dispute could be resolved by next Monday. 

Meanwhile academic activities have been suspended  at the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, following the warning strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. 

Some of the students, expressed disappointment over the strike and called for dialogue between ASUU and the Federal Government.

The branch Chairman of the union, Dr. Aniekan Brown, said that the strike was in line with a directive by the National Executive Council.
