The first of its kind The Voice Nigeria kicked off on the 10th of April 2016, with Timi Dakolo, Waje, Patoranking and 2baba being the first ever judges. The competition started with the blind auditions where if the participant sings well the judges would convince the fellow to choose them.

The battle started with 48 contestants after which the top eight were chosen, four from the judges and the other four from votes. The top eight were Chike and Nonso Bassey from team Patoranking, Cornel and Dewe from team Timi, Patrick and Arese from team Waje and from team 2baba: Brenda and viveeyan.

Yesterday, 31st of July 2016 was the grand finale of The Voice Nigeria. The last two participants of each team performed alongside their coach during the show as well as individual performances from each of the contestants. Brenda, Cornel, Chike and Arese were announced top four.

The four top contestants presented again after which the top two were announced. Chike from team Patoranking and Arese from team Waje emerged as top two.

Most people expected Chike to win but then to the surprise of everyone, the 28-year-old Agharese Emokpae also known as Arese emerged the winner of The Voice Nigeria season 1.
