An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year old wheelbarrow pusher, Suraju Ibrahim, to one month imprisonment for assault.
The Magistrate, Mrs S. O. Amzat, gave the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the charge of assault.

Amzat, who said she would have ordered the convict to undergo a two-week community service as punishment, however, noted that the law did not provide for a probation officer to enforce its supervision.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky, had told the court that the accused of no fixed address on Friday beat up the complainant, Ligali Zainab, at Mile 12 market.

He said the complainant was engaged in an argument with a wheelbarrow pusher at the market when the accused took side with his colleague and assaulted her.

“ Before the complainant knew what was happening, the accused had pushed her down and started beating and dragging her on the floor.
“Two witnesses, who came to her rescue, immediately apprehended the accused.'' he said. (NAN)
