The Nigeria Labour Congress, Imo State Chapter is at war with the state Government over the sack of 3, 000 workers in 19 parastatals, agencies and departments of the state.

In a directive, signed by the state Chairman and Secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr. Austin Chilakpu and Kenneth Onwuemeodo respectively, the sacked 3,000 workers were asked to disobey the government order but report at their respective duty posts.

The workers were sacked through radio announcement by the governor, a situation the organized labour described as absurd, saying that workers cannot be sacked or suspended or given any form of punishment through radio announcement.

“It is a complete disregard to due process. That is why we have directed in line with the rules governing attendance to work that all the affected workers should report to their various places of work and close at the approved time,” NLC said.

The aggrieved unionists equally insisted that “It is also necessary to further point out that workers, who have worked up to the 15th of the month, cannot be suspended and backdated to January 4, 2016,” the unionists fumed.
