Kano – Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Thursday said 70 tricycle ambulances would be distributed to 10 Local Government Areas to assist pregnant mothers.

Ganduje disclosed this in Kano at the flag-off of a statewide training of 1,963 traditional birth attendants in the state.

He said the tricycles would be used in transporting women in labour to nearby hospitals, adding, "when our mothers are in labour, most of them don't have means of getting to hospitals."

The governor said the gesture was part of government's commitment to provide effective and qualitative healthcare services in rural communities.

Ganduje reiterate the commitment of the state government to deliver functional and qualitative healthcare service to the door steps of the people.

He said the training of the birth attendants would enrich their skills on safe delivery of babies as well as curb mother-to-child transmission of diseases.

"This training is targeted at eradicating maternal and infant deaths in the state," he said.
