Amaechi Muonagor: Movie Enthusiasts, Others Mourn Veteran Actor

Movie enthusiasts, fans and others, have mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Amaechi Muonagor, after his demise on Sunday at the age of 61.

Muonagor, whose passing came after suffering from kidney failure attracted messages from social media on Sunday.

Known for his comical roles on screen, Muonagor was on dialysis before death came knocking, The Punch reports.

In response to the development, sources revealed that the Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, could not be immediately reached for comments on the actor’s demise.

while mourning the actor, a social commentator, Morris Monye, via his X handle, @Morris_Monye, said help was raised to assist the deceased as he battled with health issues.

Prior to his death, the news of his demise came a few days after a video where the actor solicited funds to help him have a Kidney transplant, went viral.

“Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing. He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.

“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India. This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country,” Monye wrote.

In the social media video earlier showing the Nollywood comedy legend in poor health and begging for financial help from Nigerians, he was seen in bed with a bandage on his chest, barely able to talk.

Another actor, sitting next to him, explained that Muonagor needed money to pay for a kidney transplant.

His death is coming even as Nigerians are yet to get past the death of Nollywood actor John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, who recently died.

An X user, @Oluomoofderby, while mourning the actor, wrote, “May his soul rest in peace. The healthcare systems in Western and Asian countries that are being patronised by Nigerian leaders only exist because they were developed. They are consistently maintained, through political commitment and visionary leadership, qualities that are clearly lacking in Nigeria. Maybe you like it or not, the poor healthcare system in our country is going to affect every one of us. We all need to wake up and demand a better healthcare system in Nigeria.”

Another user, @alesolas, said, “May his soul rest in perfect peace. Aside from the name Nigeria, nothing is working in the country.”

@mister_ade5 wrote “We’ve lost a Nollywood Legend. RIP Legend Amaechi Muonagor.”

“From Mr Ibu to Amaechi Muonagor. In less than a month, we lost both of them,” @Oladapomikky1 posted.

Muonagor, a native of Idemili, in Anambra, was born August 20, 1962.
