The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun,SAN and members of the institution’s management team on Wednesday hosted the LASU Badminton team who emerged winners of the Africa Universities Badminton Championship held in Mauritius.

Lagos State University team won 5 gold and 4 Silver medals at Mauritius recently.

Speaking, the vice chancellor described the feat as heart warming and good for the university.

He noted that ,in spite of paucity of funds and other challenges,the team still excelled and came back home with medals.

The Vice Chancellor said that the last time the institution took part in sporting activities,was about nine years ago, adding that the Management team was not happy about that and decided to revive sporting culture at the university,which culminated in the achievements,today.

” We appreciate your efforts and team spirit,even,in the face of challenges,you still did us proud. The Management will decide on how best to read you. These are great minds that have changed the narrative about the university. We thank you,the Director,the coach and others”,he said

The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to appreciate the staff,students and others ,who have contributed to the successes achieved at the university in the last couple of years.

He commended the Director,GNS, Professor ‘ Biodun Akinpelu,for his support for the all Africa conquering team. He commended the Director,Sports Centre,Dr. Segun Olawunmi for his vision and leadership style,especially the team spirit he brings to the fore in getting things done.

Reacting, the Director,Sports Centre,Dr. Segun Olawunmi,thanked the Vice Chancellor and the Management for their support for the team as well as the Sports Centre all the time.

He noted that the team with all kinds of challenges ,including getting to Mauritius jet lagged shows the determination to excel. He thanked the team for making LASU proud and promised more honours would come to the institution.
