Newly signed Manchester United player, Harry Maguire has emerged the most expensive defender in history.
He achieved this feat, after his confirmation an £80million transfer deal with Leicester City.
The transfer was officially announced on Monday after Maguire passed a medical and signed a six-year contract with the option of a further 12 months, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally landing his top target after weeks of negotiations.
United always maintained they would not meet Leicester’s £90m valuation, but continued to try to reach a breakthrough, with Solskjaer adamant the 26-year-old was vital to his plans.
He overtakes £75m Virgil van Dijk as the most expensive defender in history and is United’s second costliest player of all time after £89m record signing Paul Pogba.
Romelu Lukaku sits third in the list with United hoping to recoup the £75m they paid Everton for his services this summer with Inter Milan and Juventus eager to sign the Belgium international
Angel di Maria still sits fourth despite spending just one season at Old Trafford.
