Manchester City have shown interest in signing Kylian Mbappe from PSG
As a result of City’s interest in the talented football star, Paris Saint-Germain are warding off the EPL champions’ interest in Kylian Mbappe by offering the striker an enormous pay increase to stay in the French capital.
El Pais report that City boss Pep Guardiola has been tracking Mbappe for two years, since the Spaniard tried to sign the Frenchman when he was at Monaco and that the pair still talk ‘from time to time’ and have a very good relationship.
Mbappe is also being tempted by a switch to the Etihad by former Monaco team-mates Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy, who have talked up the coaching abilities of Guardiola.
PSG are aware of the situation and in an attempt to keep hold of the 20-year-old, a new contract that would keep him in Paris until 2025, earning around £860,000-a-week.
However, PSG will not be able to afford this huge new deal for Mbappe unless Neymar leaves the club this summer and his giant pay packet is taken off the wage bill.
The Brazilian earns around £900,000-a-week in France but is looking to leave the club this summer, angling for a return to Barcelona.
If PSG can get a deal done to get rid of Neymar, to Barca, Real Madrid or elsewhere, then Mbappe will be in line for a massive new contract.
Neymar looks increasingly likely to return to the Nou Camp during this transfer window, with Barcelona offering £90m plus a choice of two players from an elite list, for the striker.
