The captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria John Obi Mikel will likely end his international exile when the camp of the Super Eagles open for training ahead of the start of Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Mikel has not played for the Eagles since the World Cup in Russia and even a move to English Championship side Middlesbrough where he has captained them to back to back win he is yet to return to the national team.

Without the influential captain the team has won all of their games after the World Cup and sealed qualification for the AFCON with a game to spare, leading to talks that Mikel’s time with the Eagles is up.

A member of his management team confirmed that the 31 year old is still keen on representing Nigeria at least one last time, possibly at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
