The Super Eagles of Nigeria have played three matches in the ongoing AFCON qualifier without two of the prominent players, the team captain John Obi Mikel and Chelsea fullback, Victor Moses.

In the three matches played against Seychelles and Libya, the Super Eagles had scored 10 goals and conceded two with the the tall striker, Odion Ighalo scoring six of the goals.

The captain of the side, Ahmed Musa had scored two goals and in all the three matches, the Super Eagles dominated the midfield without Mikel and had scored more goals without Moses.

Moses retired from international football a few months ago  and concentrated fully on club assignment at Chelsea. Mikel has been nursing injury and could not join the team for the qualifiers.

Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi has been playing the Mikel’s role as the standing midfielder. He has delivered as Nigeria is on the verge of qualifying for the AFCON 2019, having topped the group E, which also has South Africa.

At present, Nigeria have 9 points, followed by South Africa 8 points, Libya 4 points and Seychelles one point.
