Torino midfielder Joel Obi has said that he would been playing for Italy instead of Nigeria but he turned down the offer.
He said that the Italian youth team actually invited him to join them but he refused because he wanted to ply for Nigeria.
Obi who had been playing in Italy since 2005 made his international debut for Nigeria in February 2011.
Obi who is now 26 said that he got the opportunity to play for Italy at 14 but turned down the offer because he loves Nigeria, his place of birth.
Injury has been his major challenges that debarred him from playing regularly for Nigeria. However, he had played two friendlies under the Super Eagles handlers, Gernot Rohr and there is indication that he may break into the team.
