2. PRE-WORLD CUP FRIENDLY:- Super Eagles to play Congo DR in Port Harcourt

Super Eagles are likely to play the friendly against Congo DR in Port Harcourt on May 27.

The match is meant to be a send forth game for the Super Eagles making their fifth World Cup appearance at the 2018 tournament in Russia.

Abuja and Uyo were previously considered.

It was gathered that the Sports Ministry is requesting N70m to fix the out of service Abuja National Stadium.

Interestingly, Port Harcourt first hosted the Eagles 2018 World Cup eliminator against Swaziland in 2015.

The Swazis held Nigeria to a goalless draw at home only to fall 2-0 to the Eagles in Port Harcourt.

Port Harcourt will also be remembered for staging the country’s qualifiers to the 2002 World Cup.

3. CONFEDERATION CUP:- Djoliba Mali shocks MFM, Plateau United walk tight rope

Unless miracles happen in the away legs of their CAF Confederation Cup, two of Nigeria’s representatives in the competition, MFM of Lagos and Plateau United, will fail to make the group stage of the championship.

The teams, which played their different matches at the Agege Stadium at the weekend, were unconvincing as they allowed the visiting teams to run away with the advantage.

For MFM, it is a near-impossible task as they lost 0-1 at home to Mali’s Djoliba FC. Plateau United fared a little better as they beat USM Algiers 2-1.

Both teams were knocked out of the Champions League in the first round, which meant they had to drop down to the second tier Confederation Cup and from the weekend’s results, they may completely drop from the continent.

On Saturday at the Agege Stadium, Plateau United defeated Algeria’s USM Algier 2-1 with King Osanga giving them the lead in the 23rd minute.

6. SPANISH LA LIGA:- Ronaldo continues goal spree but Real held by stubborn Atletico

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 24th goal in 15 games for Real Madrid this year was not enough to earn his side a derby victory on Sunday as an Antoine Griezmann equaliser secured Atletico a 1-1 draw.

Atletico retain their four-point cushion over Real while this was perhaps the perfect result for leaders Barcelona, who are now 11 points clear at the top.

Griezmann’s goal came on his 200th appearance for Atletico while Ronaldo’s was the 500th in the 161 league matches played between these two city rivals.

7. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE:- Pep fears derby hangover v Liverpool

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola fears the dramatic collapse in the local derby could weigh on his players’ minds as they seek to overturn a 3-0 deficit against Liverpool in Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg.

Needing a win to lift the title, City had one hand on the Premier League trophy after cruising to a 2-0 lead against Manchester United on Saturday but conceded three goals in a remarkable 16-minute second half spell to lose 3-2.

City, who remain 13 points clear in the Premier League, have conceded six goals in their last two matches, with Liverpool scoring three in 19 minutes at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League tie last Wednesday.

Similar lapses in concentration have cost Guardiola when he was in charge of Bayern Munich, with Real Madrid scoring three in 18 minutes in the second leg of a Champions League semifinal in 2014.

The German side also lost to Barcelona 3-0 in the first leg of the semifinal the following season, despite the game being goalless after 77 minutes.
