    NBA FINALS: Cavaliers Close To A Rematch With Golden State Warriors

    Cleveland Cavaliers moved one victory away from setting up a repeat of the 2015 and 2016 NBA Finals with a 112-99 win over Boston Celtics.

    The Cavs now lead 3-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals.

    Kyrie Irving and LeBron James combined for 76 points at home to the Celtics, who were without the injured Isaiah Thomas on Tuesday.

    Game five takes place in Boston on Thursday evening.

    Golden State Warriors have already completed a 4-0 win over San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals.

     

    French Open 2017: Simona Halep A Doubt, Tara Moore Beaten In Qualifying

     World number four Simona Halep says she has only a "50-50" chance of being fit for next week's French Open.

    The 25-year-old Romanian tore an ankle ligament during the Italian Open final.

    Meanwhile, British number four Tara Moore will not be in Paris after losing 6-2 7-5 in qualifying to Taiwan's Kai-Chen Chang.

    Elsewhere, Britain's Kyle Edmund was beaten 3-6 7-5 6-4 by France's world number 32 Gilles Simon at the Lyon Open.

     

    NIGERIA SPORTS: Danagogo, Dalung Wash Hands Off N182m Contract Scandal

     Former Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo and the incumbent, Solomon Dalung have washed their hands off a contract worth N182m said to have been awarded by the ministry in November 2013.

    There are reports credited to the Committee on Public Petitions, House of Representatives that Dalung risked being arrested because he allegedly refused to appear before the committee to explain his role in the controversial after seven invitations were communicated to him.

    The publication stated that the committee, chaired by Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, PDP, Abia also summoned the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and Director of Procurement to appear alongside the minister to explain their roles in an alleged bribery scam involving a contractor, Solbec Ltd.

    The Minister however challenged the Committee to present proof of summons and copy of the petition.

     

    INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY: Moses, Ogu To Miss Corsica Friendly

     Nigeria will present a depleted squad as the Super Eagles step up preparation for the international friendly with Corsica.

    12 players made the trip to the regional French county on Tuesday with light training on Wednesday morning.

    Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Portugal based Mikel Agu joined up with the squad on Wednesday evening to bring to 16, the number of players in camp.

    Ogenyi Onazi, Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Gent’s Moses Simon will all miss the games against Corsica.

    The Super Eagles will play Corsica on June 26 and then face Togo four days.

     

    2019 NATIONS CUP QUALIFIERInspectors Declare Uyo Ready For Eagles, Bafana Match

     A team of inspectors from the Nigeria Football Federation has declared that the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, in Uyo is ready for next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game between Nigeria and South Africa.

    Led by the Chairman of NFF Technical and Development Committee, Barrister Chris Green, the team expressed delight with the state of the pitch during a final inspection carried out on Monday.

    Green and his team were conducted round the arena by the Permanent Secretary, Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Aniedi Dickson, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Emmanuel Iba and the Chairman of Akwa United Football Club/SSA to Governor on Sports, Paul Bassey.

     

    CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers United Revive Hopes With Home Win

     Rivers United CAF Confederation Cup hopes are back on track after they piped FUS Rabat of Morocco 1-0 in a Group A match played yesterday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

    Emeka Atuloma scrambled home the match winner after 71 minutes off a free kick on the edge of the box taken by Zoumana Doumbia.

    The group has now been thrown wide open after Kampala City Council of Uganda defeated Club Africain of Tunisia 2-1 at home.

    All four teams in this group have now recorded three points each.

    Next month, Rivers United will battle KCCA of Uganda home and away in continuation of the competition.

     

    FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP: Zambia Secures Top Spot In Group C

     Two goals in five minutes ensured Zambia came back from two goals down to beat Iran 4-2 in a Group C game played today in South Korea.

    The Africa U-20 champions have six points from two wins will play their final Group game against Costa Rica on Saturday.

     

    In the other Group C game Costa Rica forced Portugal to a 1-1 draw.

    In Group D, South Africa slumped to their second defeat after going down by two goals to nil to Italy while Uruguay also defeated Japan by two goals to nil.

    In today’s Group E fixtures, France will take on Vietnam while New Zealand tackles Honduras. In Group F Ecuador will face Saudi Arabia while Senegal battles USA.

     

    CAF U-17 NATIONS CUP: Ghana Reach Final After Edging Niger On Penalties

     Ghana edged Niger 6-5 on penalties to book a spot in the final of the 2017 U17 CAF Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday at Stade de Port-Gentil.

    The Black Starlets scored from the spot through Terry Owusu, Gideon Acquah, Faisal Osman, Ibrahim Sulley, Emmanuel Toku and Mohamed Idriss whilst skipper Eric Ayiah's kick was saved.

    Paa Appiah's men will face Mali in the final fixture on Sunday night in Libreville.

    The third place fixture will pitch Niger against Guinea.

     

    EUROPA CUPManchester United joins illustrious list

    Manchester United claimed their second major trophy of the season and secured Champions League football as they overcame Ajax 2-0 to win the Europa League final in Stockholm.

    Paul Pogba's deflected shot put United ahead in the 18th minute and Henrikh Mkhitaryan's flicked in from Chris Smalling's header from a corner.

    Wayne Rooney made a brief appearance as a substitute with a minute left on what could well be his farewell appearance for United.

    United are now the fifth team to claim the full quota of European trophies, joining an illustrious list, which include Ajax, Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
