The Senate is resuming with national anxiety and apprehension over the state security hanging in the air especially with the recent killings happening in Plateau state.
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki while addressing the plenary, expressed concern over the recurring attacks in spite of security funding and measures put in place to end the killings.
As part of measures to stem the killings in parts of the country, the President of the Senate said the Senate plans to forward to the presidency the recommendations of the report of the senate security summit.
The Senate President pledged to through their oversight functions, to ensure the proper utilisation of the funds approved by the national assembly to address security issues in the country
Senator Saraki also said it is time to revisit the issue of State Police; and to devise a framework for the mopping up of the 350 million pieces of light weapons estimated to be in circulation.
With the 2019 elections approaching, the Legislators are being urged not to get distracted with political activities.
