A group under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Integrity and Justice, has requested that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to resign his appointment, within five working days.
At a joint press briefing in abuja, the coalition said Mr. Idris has lost integrity and the moral standing to lead the Nigeria Police Force, urging him to resign.
The coalition, said the allegations standing against the police IG were overwhelming, saying it was high time he exited the force to salvage the image of the country.
In another development, the Nigeria Prisons Service says it has begun manhunt of two male convicts who escaped from a prison in Enugu State.
Spokesman of the state prisons command, Emeka Monday, said the convicts, Lucky Sama and Balogun Joseph, escaped from the prison around 11 p.m on Friday.
He said the prisoners were sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Enugu East magistrate’s court, for stealing.
He described as false some media reports of jail break in the Enugu Maximum security prison.
