The Nigerian Navy has recorded another major feat in its .ongoing operations against pirates on Nigerian waters.
Nigerian Navy Ship Okpabana yesterday rescued an oil tanker, MT GAZ providence which came under attack off Bonny Island, River State.
The rescued ship had 21 crew members on board and upon encountering the pirates sent a distress call which prompted the Nigerian Navy to dispatch NNS Okpabana.
Meanwhile the Navy ship NNS pathfinder has handed over 12 suspected oil thieves, one vessel, one barge and two wooden contonu boats loaded with illegal crude oil to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC for prosecution.
Commander of NNS Pathfinder Commodore Williams Kayoda said the suspects on board MV Omisawa vessel were intercepted around the Taraba Jetty Borokiri while trying to transfer the illegal crude oil to the vessel.
Also three suspected criminals were arrested by the Western Command of the Nigerian Navy for engaging in illegal fishing and sale of cannabis along the creek of the nation's water.
Commander of the Beecroft Command, Commodore Maurice Eno said in Lagos that the suspects were intercepted by the Naval Onshore Patrol team during a routine operation.
