The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has disclosed that the Federal Government Spends about N3.5 million to feed the leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement, Ibrahim Yaqoub El Zakzaky.

El-Zakzaky has been in the custody of the government for more than two years, following the clash between men of the Nigerian Army and followers of the Shiite group in 2015 in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Despite court pronouncement that the Shiite leader should be released on bail, the government has refused to let him go.

Speaking at a news conference, a video of which had gone viral, Lai Mohammed said that it costs the government N3.5 million to feed El-Zakzaky.

“The issue of where he, let keeps it off record. These are the facts. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria are a different kettle of fish,” he said.
