With the current political calculation, some political analysts have suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar should pick his running mate from the Southeast.

Atiku emerged as the flag bearer of PDP at the party national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday.

There have been insinuations that Atiku may pick former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as his running mate. It was also gathered that Atiku might choose the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike or former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi among others from the south-east.

Following his emergence, the former Vice President who is a northerner is in serious search for a running mate to increase his chance of winning the 2019 presidential election against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Muhammadu Buhari of the APC will be running with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is from the Southwest.

Unarguably, the PDP has its stronghold in the southeast and south-south. Atiku will have to put his searchlight to the region so as to be relevant in the political permutation.

However, there are analysts who are of the views that Atiku should pick a running mate from Southwest to divide the votes in region with Osinbajo.

“The southeast people will not vote for Buhari. Atiku should focus on southwest, which will determine how the polls will go,” according to the opinions of some of the analysts.
