The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said the agitation for secession by groups in the Southeast and the ultimatum giving to Igbos to leave the north by northern groups are in violation of Nigeria’s constitution.
Professor Osinbajo said this on Sunday when he met with traditional rulers from the Southeast in continuation of his consultations with leaders of the north and southeast following increased tension in both regions.
While assuring the traditional rulers that the Federal Government remained committed to the unity of the country, Osinbajo warned that it would be wrong for people to threaten to disobey laws or the unity of the nation as a result of their grievances.
He also warned that the Federal Government would deal decisively with those who put the unity of the country at risk.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Service, DSS says it has started looking for those behind the series of hate preaching in the country, warning that it would deal with anyone causing trouble.
The DSS stated this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Tony Opuiyo.
Mr. Opuiyo described the trend as disturbing, and warned those he called desperate and mischievous elements to stop their attempt to steer the ship of Nigeria to calamity and destruction.

In a move to douse tensions generated by the three-month quit notice given to Igbos in the north, a Coalition of Ethnic Nationalities have pleaded for calm and called for the convening of a national confab.

The groups urged a ceasefire among the various youth groups in the country.
