No fewer than five persons were injured in Port Harcourt, Rivers State when a  Mall was gutted with fire on Wednesday.

In a statement by the Rivers State government, the fire incident broke out in a kitchen of one of the shops in the facility on Wednesday evening.

The statement, signed by the Secretary to the Rivers State government Tammy Danagogo described the incident as minor, adding that the fire was put out by the staff of the mall.

According to the statement, the staff used the fire fighting equipment in the mall to put out the fire.

Speaking, the Manager of the Port Harcourt Mall Chioma Okirie said a few persons were injured and normal activities had resumed.

Meanwhile the Rivers State Police has cleared the air that the incident is not a terrorist attack. The State Police PRO Nnamdi Omoni said no life was lost but that five persons sustained various degree of burns.

The injured persons are currently at the Rivers State University teaching hospital close to the mall for treatment.

Our correspondent who visited the mall this morning observed that normal sales activities had resumed and every department at the mall are opened for business.

It was also gathered that  some members of staff of the mall sustained dislocation and fracture . An unconfirmed report at the hospital were the victims are receiving treatment said two persons have already died.
