No fewer than five people were said to have lost their lives to a disease suspected to be viral hepatitis, which broke out in the Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Blood samples of about 100 persons had been taken by officials to ascertain the cause of the illness.
Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. According to doctors, the disease spreads in different ways, including through sex, sharing of needles and the consumption of unclean food.
In another development, vigilantes say Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped nine people in two separate attacks in which one person was killed and two injured in the volatile northeast.
Five members of a family were reportedly kidnapped along a highway, 50 kilometres outside Maiduguri as they waited for their car to be fixed.
The victims were heading to Maiduguri under a military escort when their car broke down and was forced to stop.
