The death of veteran journalist Cokie Roberts has made President Donald Trump extend his well wishes to her; but expressed his actual feelings by saying, “she never treated me nicely.”

In Trump’s words, he said, “I never met her. She never treated me nicely. But I would like to wish her family well. She was a professional, and I respect professionals,”

Trump speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to California also said, “I respect you guys a lot, you people a lot. She was a real professional. Never treated me well, but I certainly respect her as a professional.

Obviously, from president Trump’s reaction, his relationship with the press has become a cornerstone of his administration, and can also be seen as a ‘tense one.’

Examples of such tense relationship can be seen from the words he utters concerning people of the press and journalists. One of such example is the President repeatedly admonishing journalists as “the enemy of the people.”

Considering Trump’s perception about Roberts in his words like: ‘’Roberts never treated me nicely” and her memories received elsewhere as trailblazer in journalism, there is a total contrast.

It can also be recalled that, Roberts worked in television, public radio and publishing for more than 40 years.
