2. Ogun plans to honour Anthony Joshua
The Ogun State Government has revealed that it has plans to honour new world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua.
Joshua defeated veteran Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley in London on Saturday, knocking out the Ukrainian in the 11th round.
The London 2012 Olympic Games gold medallist was born in England to a Nigerian mother and father, who comes from Sagamu in Ogun State.
Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Afolabi Afuape, said on Monday that the plans to honour Joshua, who spent some of his early years in Nigeria before returning to England, had not been finalised.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly Yinka Mafe says he will move a motion to have the Sagamu Stadium renamed Anthony Joshua Stadium, and the popular Cinema Street in Sagamu renamed Anthony Joshua Street.
Of the two, the street is the most significant, as his family owns almost half the land and property on one side of the street.
The cinema, from which the road takes its name, was built by his great grandfather Daniel Adebambo Joshua in the 50s, and is one of the oldest of such facilities in the country.
3. Bahamas 2017: Sand Eagles Lose To Iran On Penalties, Crash Out

While African champions, Senegal lost to Switzerland.
4.John Ogu/ Ola Aina
Israeli-based John Ogu has been handed an opportunity to make the Super Eagles roster for the African Cup of Nations qualifying match with South Africa.
The Hapoel Be’er Sheva star has been called up to attend the training camp in Corsica and Paris, where he will be monitored at close quarters by manager Gernot Rohr.
MEANWHILE, Super Eagles coach Rohr wants all the processes of getting Chelsea fullback Ola Aina fast tracked.
SCORENigeria gathered the 20-year-old Aina has been left out of the week-long training camp in France because his club Chelsea are involved in the FA Cup final against Arsenal, which is fixed for May 27.
Like clubmate Victor Moses, he will therefore miss the friendly against the French island of Corsica now fixed for May 26, a day to the cup final.
Incidentally, Victor Moses also switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2012 and a year later, he inspired Nigeria to win a third AFCON crown in South Africa.
Ola Aina, whose full names are Temitayo Olufisayo Olaoluwa Aina, has made a big impression on Rohr when he trained with the rest of the squad in London in March.
5. Efe Ambrose / Kenneth Omeruo
Scottish Championship side Hibernian have made it clear that they want to retain the services of Efe Ambrose, who is on-loan from Glasgow Celtic.
The Nigeria international, who is a defender by trade, is currently on a short-term loan deal at Hibernian from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.
MEANWHILE, On loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has been offered to Napoli by Chelsea as part of their bid to sign Kalidou Koulibaly.
Chelsea’s coach is a big fan of the Napoli defender, and tried signing him last summer when he took over as coach of the team, but Napoli were in no mood to sell.
However it appears Conte will get his man this summer, after Omeruo was added as a sweetener to the deal, aside the huge amount of money Chelsea are willing to pay as transfer fee for the tough tackling defender.
Omeruo a senior international with Nigeria, who was at the last World Cup with Nigeria has spent the last four seasons on loan away from Chelsea, but he has progressed a lot since moving to Turkish side Alanyaspor this summer.
Napoli reportedly accepted the Nigerian as part of the deal after positive reports from their scout who watched the 23 year old on behalf of the club last month.
A deal is far from being reached between both parties, as talks over transfer fee and other conditions are yet to be agreed on according to sources in Italy.
6. EPL: Best goal I have scored, admits Can
Emre Can admitted his sensational bicycle kick that secured Liverpool a crucial 1-0 win over Watford in their Premier League clash on Monday was his best ever goal.
The 23-year-old German international — who took his tally to five for the season — produced his moment of magic in time added on in the first-half.
Victory kept Liverpool in third place in the table but in terms of Champions League qualification it pushed them four points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand.
The top four only qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was in awe of what he termed the ‘spectacular’ goal.
7. We want to win Champions League, not avenge defeat to Real – Atletico’s Gabi
Atletico Madrid captain Gabi insisted on Monday it is winning the Champions League not gaining revenge on Real Madrid that motivates him as the Spanish giants face off once more in Tuesday’s semi-final, first leg.
Real have beaten Atletico in each of the past three seasons in the Champions League, including twice in the final in agonising circumstances for the red and white part of Madrid in 2014 and 2016.
Both sides are seeking historic firsts as Real eye a 12th European crown in Cardiff on June 3 by becoming the first side to retain the trophy in the Champions League era.
Meanwhile, Atletico are still seeking their first ever Champions League as the only side to lose three finals without ever lifting the trophy.
Gareth Bale and central defender Pepe are Real’s only injury absentees.
Isco and Marco Asensio will compete for Bale’s place, whilst the fit again Raphael Varane will replace Pepe in the only two changes Zidane is likely to make from the side that started a 1-1 La Liga draw against Atletico at the Bernabeu just over three weeks ago.
Atletico have more injury worries as Jose Maria Gimenez suffered a groin problem in Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Las Palmas to join right-backs Juanfran and Sime Vrsaljko on the sidelines.
Diego Simeone will, therefore, be forced into a defensive reshuffle with Stefan Savic, a centre-back by trade, the favourite to be moved to right-back with Lucas Hernandez partnering Godin at the heart of the defence.
Yannick Carrasco is also a major doubt after the Belgian winger suffered a collarbone injury in last week’s 1-0 defeat to Villarreal.
The return of Kevin Gameiro, though, was a huge boost for Simeone as the French international scored twice in his first start for six weeks at the weekend.
