Entertainment Weekly has just unveiled the first few shots of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the third season of Ryan Murphy's anthology. Eagerly awaited, the series brings together a five-star cast: Edgar Ramírez will play Gianni Versace and Ricky Martin his boyfriend. Penelope Cruz is to play his equally illustrious sister Donatella and finally Darren Criss will be Andrew Cunanan, the man who assassinated the famous fashion designer on July 15, 1997, in his villa in Miami.
Following the same format than the multi award-winning The People vs. OJ Simpson, season 3 of American Crime Story will investigate the ins and outs of this media storm that shook the jet society and the fashion world of the time.
And no, in case you were wondering, season 2, which focuses on the management of the Hurricane Katrina crisis in Louisiana in August 2005, has not yet been released. It doesn’t even have a release date or a trailer either.
All we know is that it feature Dennis Quaid as then-president George W. Bush, Annette Bening as Kathleen Blanco, the governor of Louisiana at the time of the disaster, and Matthew Broderick as Michael D. Brown, director of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). The two seasons, Katrina and The Assassination of Gianni Versace, are being produced simultaneously, which is pretty unconventional in the TV world.
Seasons 2 and 3 will be released sometime in 2018 on FX.
