Things Fall Apart will be 60 next year. And Penguin USA is pulling all the stops to put together a commemoration worthy of such a great book.

They commissioned a new cover design for the book. It was recently shared on Twitter, sending Things Fall Apart fans to a frenzy.

The cover is beautiful, Chris Ogunlowo points out in his Instagram post, the image does recall the brilliant use of negative space popularized by Edgar Rubin’s in his iconic figure-ground image. Stare at the image long enough, and it will morph into a goblet. Cool, right?

The artist behind the stunning cover art is Victor Ekpuk. He is a Nigerian artist based in Washington, DC and is known for channeling Nsibidi philosophy in his art work.
