Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, is pretty much everywhere right now.

After an extended absence from music, his excellent 2016 album Awaken, My Love was a very welcome return. On the visual media side, his original series for FX Atlanta was a surprise award-winning TV phenomenon, he's signed on to be the voice of Simba in the new Lion King film, and he'll also be appearing in the upcoming Spider Man: Homecoming and Han Solo Star Wars films.

As if all that wasn't enough to keep the man busy, it's just been reported that he's working on an animated Deadpool series for FX, set for release in 2018.
The Hollywood Reporter got a scoop on the new series, which will be written and executive produced by both Donald Glover and his brother Stephen. Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory are joining them as additional producers.

After Legion performed especially well in its first season, FX is keen on expanding Marvel's presence on the channel. The show will premiere on the FXX channel, which currently hosts shows like Archer and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

No word yet about any connection - narrative or otherwise - between the planned animated series and the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool films. The voice cast hasn't been announced yet, but Reynolds' penchant for the anti-hero's biting, sarcastic tone would be hard to match for any voice actor.

Of Donald Glover's involvement with the new series, FX president of original programming Nick Grad said in a statement:

"Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta.

With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original."
