On June 1, Netflix dropped a cancellation bombshell that shook the series community to its core. After just two seasons, the Wachowski siblings' sci-fi series Sense8 will not be returning for a third chapter.
Taking to social media with messages of sadness and rage, fans of the show tried everything to make the platform reverse its decision. A number of petitions started making the rounds accompanied by the hashtag #RenewSense8.
Hopes were high but, unfortunately, it seems the battle was fought in vain as a new statement has revealed.
In a message posted to the series' official Tumblr page states, Netflix is sticking to its guns. It reads:
"To our Sense8 family… We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you.
The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever."
Despite protests, it seems Netflix has decided to put all its efforts into searching for new series hits instead.
As it goes, Sense8 isn't the only Netflix series to be canned: The Get Down, Marco Polo, Hemlock Grove, Lilyhammer and Bloodline all got the chop too.
Here's hoping the platform comes up with some exciting new shows to cheer us up. In the meantime, you can rebingewatch the first two seasons of Sense8 right now on Netflix. Word to the wise: have your tissues at the ready #SensatesForever.
