After decades of active service in the Lagos State University, more than 500 staff of the institution were presented with Long Service Award in a ceremony on Friday.

The University Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, venue of the ceremony  was agog with personalities as the the awardees rejoiced.

In his opening remarks, the university Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun said that the institution is now an African Centre Of Excellence.”

As he put it, “We were chosen from about 154 Universities that applied for the centre and after several rounds of assessment and screening, we were selected as the only State University in the round.”

He noted that LASU had been attracting foreign students and foreign faculties and that the institution is being managed in a way that it would not go into crisis.

“Not only do we have the fund to build a convention centre, we now have four new buildings coming to this University. The buildings will start being put in place in December this year,” he said.

When we start this centre of excellence, we must promise ourselves that we will strategically manage our instituon and sustain it. The name of the game is changing and we must be a part of it.

He commended the efforts of members of staff, especially the awardees, saying that each and everyone of them had contributed immensely to make the university what it is today. “We have worked together and we will not stop until we achieve more and greater developments,” he said.
