STV Kids: Citrus Ice Tea

lemon tea.jpg

This citrus-flavored iced tea is a refreshing way to get-a good dose of immune boosting Vitamin C. Citrus fruits are mostly in season and this drink is an inexpensive way to stay hydrated.

You will need a large pitcher and a large spoon to make this drink. Makes 8 (250ml / 8-ounce) cups. You also need a strainer to remove fruit seeds. Children under 10-years-old need adult supervision when cutting the fruit.

Ingredients

6 tea bags (use a black tea such as Lipton or Top Tea)

4 large oranges

4 large limes or lemons

8 tablespoons of sugar

1 liter / 64 ounces of water

1 cup of ice (optional)

Directions:

Boil about a cup of water and in a separate cup, pour over tea bags. Allow to rest and cool for about 30 minutes. Pour sugar into a separate pitcher. Squeeze oranges and limes or lemons through a strainer into the pitcher, over the sugar. Mix sugar and juices and then add tea mixture, remembering to remove the tea bags.

Add water to the medley and mix well until sugar is dissolved. Add ice and serve chilled.
