The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday says it has generated over N23 billion between January and July 2019 through its anti-smuggling efforts.
The Zonal Comptroller Mr Abdullah Zulkifli says the the amount has surpassed what was realised in 2018.
The Zonal comptroller while briefing journalists at the customs headquarters in Ibadan said that the command has made 7,951 seizures from January to July, 2019 among which were 93 cars 6,067 (50kg) bags of parboiled rice, 966 used tyres and 39 bales of secind-hand clothing.
Zulkifli puts the duty paid value of the items at one hundred and five million, ninety seven thousand, five hundred and twenty nine Naira (105,097,529.00).
According to the Customs boss, 35 suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures and other smuggling activities out of which five are currently being tried at the law court.
