Facts have emerged that bush burning may have actually caused the collapse of the Nigeria’s power transmission grid that threw the country into total blackout in the last two days.

It was gathered that the bush burning around Abakila, in Ondo State on January 2, 2018 affected a pipeline that supplied gas to some thermal stations.

According to the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru the segment of the pipeline had to be shutdown to allow repair.

The pipeline supplies natural gas from Escravos region of the Niger Delta area to Lagos and some parts of the South West and West Africa Gas Pipeline System.
