The house of representatives has directed the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun to release the sum of N15 billion to the Presidential Amnesty Programme based on the provision of the 2016 budget.
The lawmakers also mandated (the House Committee on Niger
Delta Affairs to probe the circumstances leading to the funding constraints affecting the amnesty programme .
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative is asking the Federal Government to recover over N21 billion unremitted funds.
It says the money will help to fund the country’s Economic Recovery Plan.
Findings from a series of audits of the Oil and Gas sector carried out by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative shows that NNPC and its upstream arm, NPDC, failed to remit $21.8 billion and N316. 7 billion to the federation account.
